Durham School Services team member Stephen Schmuck, region manager based in Wilbraham, MA, received the Golden Merit Award by the National School Transportation Association (NSTA).  NSTA’s Golden Merit Award was launched in 1969 to recognize school bus operators for their successful operating achievements in the areas of safety, driver training, business practice, vehicle maintenance, and superior service to the school, community, and the pupil transportation industry.

He began his career as a mechanic and was quickly promoted to an area maintenance manager for his in-depth knowledge of the industry and level of accomplishments. Schmuck’s role as region manager involves oversight of 15 locations in New England, which operate over 1,200 routes. He was recognized for his outstanding operational leadership and dedication to customer service.
“Stephen is one of the most knowledgeable student transportation professionals that I have had the pleasure to work with,” said Kim A. Worster, Chief Operating Officer at National Express, the parent company of Durham School Services. “His leadership and management style has translated into outstanding customer retention and long tenured employees and has helped drive the success of our organization.  Dedication and commitment such as this deserves to be recognized.”
